At a time of revolution in Zilania, the baby Princess Silvia has been taken away to safety in Belgium and placed with a family in Bruges. Her adoptive mother, Dame Paula, runs a laundry known as The White Geese with the help of her six natural daughters and Silvia. Silvia has had an on and off romance with a dashing young soldier, Karl. Karl has also been courting a milliner, Liane. Liane disguises herself as an adopted daughter of the laundress and, in doing so, confuses those in pursuit of the ‘lost’ princess. Silvia’s distant cousin, Franz, has been named as Zilania’s heir apparent and during his travels he meets and falls in love with an enchanting young laundress. After many complications and sub-plots, Silvia’s true rank is revealed but not before she and Prince Franz have become ‘sweethearts’.
