Based on the Margret Atwood novel of the same name, The Handmaid’s Tale has seen resurgence of late with the popular SBS television series starring Elizabeth Moss as Offred, as well as its themes having echoes in the current political climate.
Celeste, aside from being heard on the airwaves on 102.5, has only recently returned to Australia after an extensive operatic career in Europe. She has been a regular principal artist for multiple seasons with the State Theatre of Wiesbaden, Germany, sharing the stage with Gerald Finley, Jose Cura and Catherine Foster to name a few opera superstars.
Celeste has also performed extensively the annual Wien Modern Festival in Vienna, the Kammer Musik Wiesbaden, the Giessen Musik Festival and with renowned orchestras including the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Early Music Ensemble, the Deutsches Kammer Orchester, Wien Residenz Orchester and the Sydney Symphonia.
In 2018 Celeste came home to Sydney to sing not only Offred, but Nella in Gianni Schicchi for Opera Australia’s production in Tokyo (production since postponed) and as an Apprentice in Opera Australia’s Meistersinger von Nürnberg by Wagner, as well as perform in a variety of concerts, including as the alto soloist in several of Handel’s Messiah performances.
